Caribbean Basketball Networks Alert - The Frenzy

Caribbean Basketball Networks
The Frenzy

grandbahamabasketballcourt.jpg

Recently, the basketball Mecca of the universe, has turned its attention to the Caribbean, among other countries to get talented young prospects into the american system in hopes of grooming them for future success. It’s much like the elapsing of markets syndrome experienced by bigger wider known brands I.e. The Coke and Pepsi, Nike and Adidas lines and their market share stake in America. So in the sense of good business all entities must look outside of it borders to continue to feed the machine which exist. So with the attention being turned elsewhere and little or no structure being set up to receive such attention where the attention is being given; frenzy ensues and questions of credibility arise and linger greatly. This is for external representatives and individuals looking at the Caribbean for talented young prospects, events and/or coaches; here is how you wade through “The Extras” and get to the heart of the matter.

Felix “Fly” Musgrove - Coach’s Corner

One of the smoothest and most successful transitions from a marquee player to a marquee coach in Bahamian basketball history is the one successfully competed by Felix “Fly” Musgrove. One of the younger siblings within one of the more athletically dominant families in Bahamian history, the Musgrove name has roots in sporting success. Given the name “Fly” for his propensity to take off and finish on or over a defender in his younger days, Musgrove had his way on the basketball court for the St. John’s College Green Giants. After illin’ the Bahamian high school scene, he took his game to Georgia to Truin-Mccartney College for a year. Felix then transferred to the University of Science and Arts in Chickasha, Oklahoma where he completed his collegiate basketball career. (more…)

One of the most quickly emerging summer basketball programs in the Bahamas is the southside stingers basketball club. The Stingers, a relatively new basketball club, have emerged from the myriad of summer hoop groups to become the winningest program over the past 5 years as it relates to the summer hoops circuit. The program pulls talent mainly from the southern regions of new providence (The Carmichael, Pinewood, South beach areas). The Southside Stingers play what the coach describes as “fun with defense”, a regular motion offense and rip, run and gun type basketball. Not too regimented like a high school but not too lax whereas its chaos. Today we sat down with the brain trust for the ultra successful summer program to get his thoughts and reactions. (more…)

Whether he admits it or not…and he probably won’t….Anthony Swaby is a Caribbean Basketball coaching legend. Coach Swaby is an alumni of the school on the hill, St. Augustine’s College, and despite never playing at any level of basketball besides recreational, it has never stopped him from leading his team to victory.
